About Monex

Monex Precious Metals Review

Monex has been in business far longer than many other precious metals investment companies. Louis Carabini first started the business in 1967 as a small coin shop in California. As demand for precious metals continued to increase, the company grew.

Today, Carabini along with his son and granddaughters all work for Monex. The company now employs a very large staff of precious metals experts who work to meet the needs of each investor.

Precious Metals IRAs

Monex Precious Metals Review

Monex is not an IRA custodian, but they work with different custodian companies and can help you add precious metals to an IRA. If you're interested in setting up a Precious Metals IRA to diversify your retirement accounts, contact one of the trustees or custodians recommended by Monex, and tell them that Monex will be your precious metals dealer.

Then, work with the IRA custodian to fund your account, either by rolling over funds from an existing eligible retirement account or by transferring money from your bank account.

Once the funds are available, you can work with a representative at Monex to add the coins and bars you'd like to hold in your account.

Selling Precious Metals to Monex

Monex Precious Metals Review

Monex will also purchase precious metals from individuals looking to sell some or all of their holdings. They have worked to simplify the process of selling metals to be as easy as possible to help you quickly get the cash you need. Monex purchases gold, silver, platinum, and palladium bars and coins.

If you're interested in selling metals to Monex, start by making a call to speak to a representative. They will let you know the value of your metals and quote you a price for purchasing them. If you decide you'd like to go ahead and make the sale, the representative will provide instructions on how to package and ship your metals.

After your precious metals shipment has arrived, you'll be contacted by a representative to confirm the exact value of your metals and your payment will be issued.

It is always a good idea to read through reviews from other users before making a big purchase, such as investing in precious metals. Reading reviews gives you insight into the experiences of other customers and whether or not a particular company is attentive, responsive, and trust-worthy.

Is Monex Precious Metals a Scam?

Monex Precious Metals Review

No, Monex Precious Metals is not a scam. The company has been around since 1967 and certainly would not have been able to stay in business for this amount of time if they were truly a scam company.

While Monex appears to be a legitimate company, there are a few indicators that they may not be the right company for you to choose to work with. First, they are not a BBB Accredited Business, like so many other precious metals dealers are. There have also been three complaints filed against Monex with the BBB in the past three years.

Three is not a huge number of complaints, but the fact remains that there are other precious metals companies who do not have any complaints against them. Two of these complaints were about problems with a product or service provided by the company, and one was related to advertising and sales issues.

There have also been reports filed against Monex with RipOffReports. This is very troubling, as you definitely don't want to have an issue with such a large transaction.

While there are some positive reviews for the company, we feel that the negative reviews should outweigh these as you are trying to decide which precious metals company to work with. Many customers cited rude and unhelpful sales associates in their review, and you want to choose a company where you'll be confident that you'll receive excellent support.

Monex is also not an IRA custodian. If you wish to open a Precious Metals IRA, you will first need to work with one of the IRA custodians they recommend. It doesn't appear that they are as helpful as some other companies are at facilitating the IRA set-up process.

Features

  • The company has been around since 1967.
  • You can invest in gold, silver, platinum, and palladium.
  • If you work with an IRA custodian company, you can designate Monex as your precious metals dealer and add coins and bars to an IRA.
  • Monex also purchases precious metals for those looking to sell.
  • You can find helpful reports on the website to learn more about investing in precious metal.
  • They offer a referral program, and you can earn a free 1.5-ound Silver SuperLeaf of 10 oz silver bar for free if someone you refer makes a purchase.

Pros:

  • Monex has been in business longer than many other precious metals dealers.
  • Referring friends or family to Monex can earn your free silver.
  • They offer gold, silver, platinum, and palladium coins and bars.

Cons:

  • There are some very negative customer reviews that reference rude sales associates, not getting what was paid for, and overall poor business practices.

Final Verdict

Monex Precious Metals is just one of the precious metals companies out there. Based on the customer reviews that cite poor service and some sketchy business practices, we would advise you to choose another precious metals company to work with. Fortunately, all companies are not like Monex; there are definitely some trust-worthy and reliable ones out there to choose from.

Although we do think that Monex Precious Metals is an "OK" company, we believe that there are better companies out there to make your investment with.
