Rodney and Vicki Scott started AJPM in 1991. Prior to starting AJPM, the Scotts had opened four other precious metals businesses in the Portland, Oregon area and Vancouver, Washington. The pair also owned the Portland Minting Company and Medallion Specialties Inc, opened in 1986.
Forming AJPM in 1991 represented a consolidation of all of the Scott's separate business endeavors. AJPM, which stands for Affordable Jewelry and precious Metals. AJPM has three storefront locations in Oregon, but also sells to investors all over the world.
AJPM offers investors a large selection of gold bullion pieces. The market price for many of these coins and bars is listed on the website, but for some pieces you will need to call one of the storefront locations for updated pricing information. If you'd like to follow in the steps of other financial experts and invest in gold bullion with AJPM, below are some of the various coins and bars you can choose from:
Silver bullion also represents a smart investment. More and more uses are being discovered for silver in a variety of fields, such as manufacturing and technology. This increase in possible uses signals that the demand for silver will remain high. Below are the different silver coins and bars available to investors through AJPM.
Would you like to add some platinum to your portfolio? Not all precious metals investment companies even offer platinum, but AJPM does. Platinum is another highly-coveted and rare precious metal that would make a nice addition to any portfolio. The platinum coins and bars offered by AJPM include:

You can view these prices by clicking on the Gold, Silver, or Platinum bullion headers at the top of the page.
Selling Scrap Precious Metals
In addition to selling gold, silver, and platinum bullion to AJPM, you may also be able to sell your scrap gold or silver to the company. Scrap precious metals, which may include broken jewelry, dental items, and other industrial products, can be melted down and used to make new items.
AJPM will buy these otherwise useless items from you. Then, you can use the money to purchase coins or bars or save it for some other use.
You can visit the "Scrap" section of the website to use the precious metals calculator to get an ideal of what your precious metals are worth. The calculator includes sections for each type of metal (10-karat gold, 14-karat gold, 18-karat gold, 22-karat gold, dental gold, and .925 silver). Simply enter the number of grams of each precious metal type you have to sell, and the calculator will provide you with a value.
How to Order

Are There Any Red Flags for AJPM?
In preparing for this article, we looked up reviews for AJPM on some highly-trusted online review sites including the Business Consumer Alliance, Better Business Bureau, Trustpilot, and TrustLink. We always find that looking up what other customer share about their experiences with a company can be extremely beneficial in learning more about how the company operates and treats its customers.
As you can see below, reviews of AJPM are limited on these sites we checked. You can always search and see if there are results on other review sites, but with such limited reviews, it is hard to get a full picture of how AJPM conducts business and interacts with its customers.
Very few reviews do not always equal poor products or services. However, there are lots of other precious metals investment companies that are much more highly reviewed by hundreds or thousands of past customers. With such a large number of reviews, you can feel more confident about your decision to work with a company.
Is AJPM a Scam?
AJPM is a legitimate company; it is not a scam. They have been in business since 1991 when Rodney and Vicki Scott first started the company. AJPM has three physical locations and also sells precious metals over the phone.
The question of whether you want to work with AJPM is not the same as whether the company is a scam. While AJPM appears to be a legitimate company, we still wouldn't advise you to work with them for a few different reasons.
One of the biggest reasons we'd suggest looking elsewhere is that reviews for AJPM are so limited. Despite being in business for 30 years, there are hardly any reviews on some of the most trusted online review sites. As we shared above, this doesn't necessarily mean that AJPM doesn't offer excellent products and services, but you really can't tell without hearing what other customers have to say.
Another thing we don't love about AJPM is their ordering process. With many other companies, you can add products directly to an online cart and check yourself out online. To order through AJPM you need to call the company and speak with a representative.
It also looks like you must pay with a personal check, cashiers check, money order, or wire transfer (for orders over $15,000). AJPM does not accept credit cards, debit cards, or PayPal, as many other precious metals investment companies do.
The selection of gold and silver coins offered by AJPM is also not as extensive as what you'll find with some other companies. If you're looking to hold a large number of different coins and bars in your portfolio, you're probably better choosing a different company.
All-in-all, we would not recommend working with AJPM. We think there are many better options out there if you're looking to invest in precious metals. We don't like that must call to order through AJPM and that they don't accept credit cards, debit cards, or PayPal. We also found that their selection of coins and bars isn't that large. We'd recommend continuing your search for a better precious metals investment company that is more highly reviewed and makes it easier to order gold and silver.
Although we do think that AJPM is a somewhat decent company, we believe that there are better companies out there to make your investment with.
